Tachtig procent van de Walen, 78 procent van de Brusselaars en 70 procent
van de Vlamingen zeggen trots te zijn dat ze Belg zijn.

Dat blijkt uit een peiling die werd uitgevoerd door Dedicated Research vraag
van de krant Le Soir en de RTBF Voorts blijkt 52 procent van de Walen zich
voornamelijk Belg te voelen, 32 procent voelt zich vooral Europeaan en
veertien procent vooral Waal. Bij de Brusselaars voelt 41 procent zich in de
eerste plaats Belg, 33 procent Europeaan en zestien procent Brusselaar. In
Vlaanderen voelt 39 procent zich vooral Belg, 38 procent voelt zich Vlaming
en negentien procent houdt het bij Europeaan. De Walen tonen zich ook
optimistischer over de toekomst van België. Brusselaars zijn het meest
pessimistisch. Zo heeft 74 procent van de Walen het gevoel dat ons land
binnen vijf jaar zeker nog zal bestaan, tegen 67 procent in Brussel en 70
procent in Vlaanderen. Over een termijn van tien jaar gaat het om
respectievelijk 63 procent, 49 procent en 57 procent.

Tot slot zegt 31 procent van de Walen er zeker van te zijn dat België binnen
50 jaar nog zal bestaan. In Brussel gaat het om 21 procent en in Vlaanderen
om 26 procent. Dat pessimisme moet enigszins worden gerelativeerd, want 32
procent van de Walen, 31 procent van de Brusselaars en 29 procent van de
Vlamingen denken dat het land dan 'waarschijnlijk' nog zal bestaan. De
enquête werd uitgevoerd bij 1.509 stemgerechtigde personen. Ze vond plaats
tussen 29 januari en 7 februari 2005. De foutenmarge bedraagt 1,9 procent.
