Moi Jan,
Refrein:
Maar die kat kom weer,
die kon nie langer wach,
Die kat kwam weer de volgenden dag
De kat kwam eer
Geloof me het is waar
Den volgende dag was die kat daar weer daar!
Hij zet hem op een skip
Dat zeilde naar Ceylon
Die skip die was gelaán
Met twaalf duzend ton,
Maar verre van dit land
Daar is die skip gestrand
En alle matrozen
Verdronken..........
Maar de kat enz...
Goodgaon,
Arend Victorie

Ay, richt. Weel, ye ken what a gairden is, bairns. It disna maitter
whether it's a flouer gairden, or a fruit gairden, or a cabbage gairden,
it's a gairden, aa the same.
Nou, whit dis a body dae that's possessed o sic a gairden, for tae prevent
ill-disposed pairsons frae pickin his flouers, pouin his fruit, or
tramplin doun his cabbages? He builds a waa roond it, that's what he
daes. It disna maiter whether it's a stane waa, or a brick waa, or a
widden waa, it's a waa, aa the same.
An what dis he pit on tap o the waa but wee bits o broken gless. It disna
maiter whether it's auld whusky bottles, or champagne bottles, or juist
ordinary sodae-watter bottles, it's broken gless, aa the same.
Aweel, ye micht hae obsairved in yer perambulations in the gloamin, that
wee bit baestie endowed wi sae muckle prudence and caution, commonly caad
the _cat_. An, it disna maiter whether it's a torty-shell cat, or a
Maltese cat, or a Madagascar cat, or an Isle o Man cat (an ye ken the Isle
o Man cats haes nae tails), but it's a cat, aa the same.
Ay. An ye micht hae seen this wee bit cat walkin alang the tap o the waa,
the waa wi the broken gless on't: the waa that gaes roond aboot the
gairden that contains the flouers, the fruit an the cabbages.
Weel, ye micht a seen this wee bit cat doutless intent on some midnicht
carousal, pittin its wee bit taes cautiously inatweesh the bits o broken
gless an advancin slaw but siccar forrit. Nou, that cat is walkin
_circumspectly_.
Likewyce, whan ye'r aa haein yer wee bit blether thegither an ye tak it
intae yer heid tae hae a wee bit mowes, or a joke, or tae mak a pairsonal
remerk anent some puir sowel in the gethert company, juist try an mind on
thon cat an see that ye approach the maiter _circumspectly_.
