Dear Heather,

maybe I'm on any aberrating and wrong way and have to fear Your sharp, well
educated tongue :-)- but I understood it to be a (Saxonical originating)
dialectical version of 'Wednesday' = 'Wotans day'??!

There's no kind of this stuff left in our region- folks had been killed for
terminating things this way. It seems to have been necessary for
establishing any reign, any well working administration suitable to be
controlled and ruled by the Archbishop of Bremen, in those Middleages.

Friendly Regards

Johannes "Jonny" Meibohm

OED umpteen

umpty - signaller's slang for 'dash' used in reading morse code messages:
by association with numerals ending in -ty used for indefinite fairly large
number: whence umpteen - after numerals in -teen. 20th century

You learn something every day ........... so long as you're curious.
Thanks for the shove, Johnny!
