In the Newcastle-upon-Tyne area where I live (I'm not a native, having
lived here a mere 20-odd years), there is a word 'to neb' which means
'to look at' 'to poke your nose in' somewhere where is not wanted or
where you are not involved - bystanders at an argument are nebbing (in
Wigan, where I was brought up, the word is gawping).

Interesting, this and the affirmation from Mark Dreyer in a later posting.
And so it tends to the originally mentioned 'not concrete, uncalculable,'.

It's obviously from the same stem as G:'wackeln', meaning E:'wobble'.
