Subject: Etymology [e]

Hi all,

On the issue of 'Clag' or 'claggy' it was mentioned
about the use of claggy as in a 'claggy fog' in the
Northumbrian language. Off the top of me head I can
recall claggy being used in relation to weather
conditions such as fog. I heard it used when it's hot
'n' sticky - 'a claggy day'. However it's most
frequently used in relation to muddy conditions - "Am
cov'ad in claggy clarts" (I'm covered in sticky mud) -
or if something is sticky.

Keep ahaad,
Glenn
