Whatever they've been doing about the technical problems recently, it seems
to have fixed the problem I was having reading special characters.

Glad to see more activity on the list as well, now that things have been
mostly straightened out.

Thanks, Kevin.  Great to hear from you, too, as always.

I'm glad the "special" character thing is finally working for you.  This
G-Mail thing has some drawback (which is more a matter of getting used to
stuff), and there's still a minor list server problem, but on the whole it's
an improvement.  However, the hosting "service"'s technicians are a
different matter ... whatever they are doing or not doing ...

As for activities, yes, it's great.  I'm rather pleased about Shug (Hugh)
having come forward.  According to that and according to his private
communication with me, I'd say he's a keeper.  Let's be nice to him, at
least for the honeymoon period.  It looks as though he'll help us get
anniversary project goodies.

I'd like to take this as an opportunity to thank especially Henry, Sandy and
Vlad for being rather supportive behind the scenes lately.

Furthermore, I'd like to thank our John Duckworth and Mohammad Suleiman for
their latest contributions to the anniversary projects, and for
contributions still in the works.  What a pleasure it's been working with
them!

And of course there's the rest of you that keep things moving.

In case I don't get to it in my traveling frenzy, I hope you'll all slide
smoothly into 2007 and will have an enjoyable ride throughout the year.
