They are common here in USA; I use one almost every day to get into
"dress shoes" (ie. not sandals or sneakers). They are given out free at
most shoe stores when you buy nicer leather shoes.

In Twente we call that a "löiwage". I'm not sure whether Dutch has a
similar word or not.

Now, THAT'S a slick way of calling me (us) old!  No, I don't remember the
last time I used a shoespoon either.  But, if old-fashioned, arcane language
is not a subject of discussion, then what the hell are linguists going to
talk about?  I say that in jest, but there is some truth to it, no?
