tack taken by France in Basque and Gaelic areas.

I'm not exactly fluent in Afrikaans, and haven't spoken it regularly for 
years, but I found in the Netherlands that they understood me better than I 
understood them!  Belgium was a little more two-way.

Hello all,
I notice that Afrikans is in the header, and that there are Dutch
speakers here. Can anyone comment on how mutually intelligible the two
are today? Also, is any attempt being made in German/Dutch schools to
teach/preserve real Frisian in schools? I hate to see any language lost.
Also, is there a website (I did a search w/o luck) with Friesisch
lessons, or pdf of old, out of copyright textbooks (like the wonderful
examples of Greek and Latin texts from early 20th century downloadable
free on classics sites)?

Ter informatie het volgende onderwerp, verschenen in het Limburgs Dagblad
van zaterdag 14 januari.
Jean Frins uit Schaesberg, taalkundig onderzoeker aan de Rijksuniversiteit
Groningen,  verzorgt volgende week 2 lezingen in het Duits over de dialecten
tussen Valkenburg, Eschweiler en Eupen. De eerste vindt plaats op donderdag
19 januari vanaf 19.00 uur in de Stauferkeller van Haus Löwenstein, op de
Markt 39 te Aken, en de 2de op zondag 22 januari vanaf 15.30 uur in het
Kulturheim aan het kerkplein in Hergenrath.
Als jullie mij de emailadressen van geïnteresseerden willen doorgeven, wil
ik ze best op de hoogte brengen van de lezingen.
