Moin alltohoop,

Since 1446 there was a public authority in Hamburg called 'wedde' or
'wette'. It was responsible for example for the citizenship and the
admmission of marriages. I have never heard something like 'wedde' in
our times. It seems to be lost. I suppose it is related to the Dutch 'wet'.

Is this word 'wedde' or 'wette' still in use in this sense somewhere in
the Lowlands?

Vanaf 1446 was in Hamburg een overheid wat heette 'wedde'. Het was
verantwoordelijk voor de Hamburgschap en het recht te huwen.
Tegenwoordig kan ik niets meer horen van 'wedde'. Het woord is
vermoedelijk uitgestorven. Ik denk, het is af van de Nederlandse 'wet'.

Is het woord 'wedde' of 'wette' nog gebruikelijk in dit zin in de lage
landen?
