Frisian is "sneon", not "zaterdag", which is Dutch. Some dialects
have "saterdei" (Eastern) but most have "sneon"
which derives from "*sinna-ewend" (~ Sonnabend) = the day before Sunday.
(via sinna-ewend > s(i)newend > sneewnd > snjoon(d) > sneon [snø. at n],
in WF, Hylpersk preserves "sneand" I believe, Skylgersk "snjong" esfh).

In Northern Low Saxon we use _sün-avend_ (_Sünnavend_ ["zY.nQ:(v)mt]) "sun
evening" for 'Saturday', and based on that Missingsch _Sonnåmt_ (["zOnQ:mt]) and
more "refined" Northern German _Sonnabend_ (["zOn,?a:bent]).

When I was a child, the alternative German word _Samstag_ (["zamsta:k], Northern
["zamstax]) was foreign to me, "southern," although I understood it.
