Hello Marcel,

in a Polish dictionary I found:

skot: Vieh, Hornvieh (cattle, horned cattle)
skotarz: Viehhirt (cattle drover, herdsman, shepherd)
skotnik: Viehhirt (cattle drover, herdsman, shepherd)

but all of them with the remark "dawny" - "nicht mehr gebräuchlich" ("no
longer used").

 Marcel,
cf. Latin
peccus - live stock
pecunia - money
Ave! Mike Wintzer

Exactly! Interestingly, 'pecus' goes back to a proto-Indoeuropean root
*peìk^u-,
*which seems to have meant 'shaved wooly animal, sheep; cattle'. The related
root *pk^-t-eìn- *means "comb", and *pok^o-s* could have stood for "fleece"
(cf. the Argonauts and the Golden Fleece). It is an interesting word which
you find it in many Indoeuropean languages in many different meanings:
Sanskrit _pas'u_ (cattle), Latin _pecunia_ (money), Armenian (genitive)
_asu_ (sheep's wool), Greek _peko_ (comb), Latin _pecto_ (to comb), English
_fight_ (supposedly with a comb-like tool), Old Icelandic _fax_ (manes), Old
Icel. _faer_ (sheep), etc.

Best regards,

Marcel.
