Subject: Etymology

I've just come across, a day or two late, the postings on"rag", mentioning
music with a ragtime beat.  For several years now I've been involved
with (ahem) the world's finest ragtime piano player (concert here the end of
January).  He's gone into history over the subject and said that back a
hundred and some years ago that kind of music was critically referred to as
"ragged time".  The mention by Kevin Caldwell of the syncopated beat sounds
about right, and I love the music.
