Well, they caused the Roman Empire to fall... that's well enough described.

As with all historical matters, it may not be that simple. Did the

first waves were part and parcel of the Roman Empire by the time the later

Rome, but to seek its protection from the Huns. Visigoths and Franks were a
major component of the Roman army that defeated the Huns at Chalons. The
Roman general Stilicho, a key player in resisting Germanic attacks, was
himself a Vandal. It's always a complex weave, never a single thread.
