Ron,
There is a vowel change between the noun and the verb (u>y).
The noun 'hulda' means an imaginary being, that you might not even see if
they were standing right in front of you.
The verb 'hylja' means to cover, hide, conceal. I assume that these words
are related, as I had read that the 'huldufolk' were the hidden people.
What with being treeless and rock- and boulder-filled , a nighttime walk
in the Faroese outfield, can inform the hiker of the huldafolk. Iceland has
huldufolk, as well as the Faroes.
