Beste Ron,
well done- I've taken a look into the site you meanwhile established (
http://lowlands-l.net/beyondthepale/ ). Perfect! Been busy, eh ;-)??
> Send stuff under "Words" and in the body of your messages specify which of
the categories each submission is for.
So- let me try.

Subject: LL-L "Words"
Category: "Words I Love"
"s'il vous plait" (abbrev. "s.v.p.") (French) "if you please" (English)
*Though I don't speak French at all I find this phrase to be the most
international and best sounding way for any type of request. (Jonny Meibohm,
Bremerhaven, Germany)*
============================================================
Can we run it this way?
Allerbest!

Thanks, Jonny, and thanks for taking the lead.
The way you submitted it works fine.
One thing though: doesn't *s'il vous plait* literally mean "if it pleases
you"? (I think an 18th-century Germanized form of it for the "less
cultured" was *wenn es Euch behagt* or *sollte es Euch behagen*.)
Cheers!
Reinhard/Ron
