Hi,
This is my West-Flemish reaction about some meanings of "dun".
I did not follow the previous mails. Sorry if I repeat things or
misunderstood the subject.
-dinte = dunheid (E: thinness)
-dinneling (E: little young plants te be removed so that the remaining ones
can grow better. )
-dun gezaaid = zeldzaam (E: rare)
-Z'n haar staat dinne. (Dutch litt.: Zijn haar staat dun) (E: not so many
hairs on his head)
-Door dik en dinne lopen. (door slijk en water lopen, droog en nat) Er alles
voor doen.( E: to go for it. )
-'k Ben der dinne van. (Dutch: Ik ben er niet goed van) (E: i don't have a
good feeling about this)
-J'is dunne (dinne) van kor'neirde. (Dutch litt.: Hij is dun van
korenaarde) "Kor'neirde" meaning mould. This expression is said of a person
that seems rather stupid.
-dunsel/dinsel (thin out from a tree)
I found some old verses (dict. De Bo):
Het houwelijck doet myn caken dinnen,
Den cost es nu seer pijnlijck om winnen (A.Biins)
Myn liefde tot u sal nimmermeer dinnen (id)
Och mocht ic uwen soeten troost noch gewinnen
Mijn droefheijt sou dinnen (id)
Ghy en zult niet stelen noch yemands goed dinnen (Ed. De Dene)
Groetjes
Luc vanbrabant
