The German Wikipedia article on the topic “tschüs†is quite informative:

In simmary, it seems as if there might be connections towards both Spain and
Portugal (as Ron indicated) and to France, the latter possibly via Walloon
“adjuusâ€. The French original is more easily recognizable in the Rhineland
version “tschö†(from adieu), while the South German “adé†might indicate a
loan directly from Latin.
