Hello Lowlanders:

I’d like to call your attention to an article in La Jornada, a newspaper in
Mexico, about women in the former DDR. If you read Spanish, you can see it
at http://bit.ly/MOnZP.

Otherwise, the nutshell versions says that women from the former DDR have
surpassed their western sisters in their occupations in the West. The DDR
had 92% of women in the work force before reuniting with the West, which
made them less suseptible to the guilt of trying to combine children with a
career that the westerner feels.

I found the story quite interesting. I wonder if our Lowlanders can add
anything to that.

To those of you who don't already know this let me explain that the acronym
DDR is the German equivalent of English GDR which stands for "German
Democratic Republic", in other words what is commonly referred to as "East
Germany".
