Subject: LL-L "Etymology" 2009.11.24 (01) [EN]
Dear Lowlanners,
resp. 'Kangaroo' John M. Tait (1) and Clarke David (2) explained:
(1)"I can't get out". The story was told to me a long time ago by a
Scotswoman.
(2) Perhaps he meant to say "Ah canna ga oot" ...
I couldn't believe it at first - but once more it's similar to German Low
Saxon: "Cann' ne 'ruut!' But I don't believe in this explanation at all!
Allerbest!
Jonny Meibohm
