Subject: Projects
Dear Lowlanders,
Recently I wrote the following:
Now that we are well into August -- Can you believe it? -- I offer you a
little challenge, or a *big* challenge if you wish to meet it "bigly".
We are not too far away from Halloween around whose time there are
traditions that feature the eerie, the scary, the spooky ... I am not
proposing that everyone *celebrate* Halloween (and I am aware that some
Christian and Islamic circles frown upon that). What I *am* proposing is a
topic for discussion and for comparing and collecting cultural and
linguistic tidbits.
Perhaps some of will add something of this sort to our Web presentations,
such as ...
- Traditions:
http://www.lowlands-l.net/traditions/
e.g. spooky myths, customs and folktales
- Travels:
http://www.lowlands-l.net/travels/
e.g. haunted or otherwise spooky places to visit
- Gallery:
http://www.lowlands-l.net/gallery/
e.g. your spooky stories (including retold traditional ones), poems,
songs, music and/or pictures
Such "postable" contributions need not be large. Written ones can be as
brief as one paragraph each and in any language variety you choose.
If I get it together till then I'll produce sound files for the scary poems
in my Klaus Groth collection:
Dat gruli Hus (The Eerie House)
http://lowlands-l.net/groth/gruli.php
He wak (He Woke)
http://lowlands-l.net/groth/wak.php
Dat stæhnt int Moor (Moaning on the Moor)
http://lowlands-l.net/groth/moor-2.php
So, go and put your thinking hats on, folks!
One person has answered the call: our Sandy. He submitted a story, and I
have posted it in his part of our gallery:
http://lowlands-l.net/gallery/fleming_ferranti.php
Thanks, Sandy!
We might as well start a "spooky" presentation and post or double-post
"spooky" things there. I guess Sandy's story and my English translations of
Groth's spooky poems are a start.
Another candidate is our Tom Mc Rae's "That Damned House":
http://lowlands-l.net/gallery/mcrae_house.php. Is that all right with you,
Tom?
And then there's our Arend's "Cillie Nèvelhekse"*:
* http://lowlands-l.net/gallery/victorie_cillie.php
It comes with my English translation:
http://lowlands-l.net/gallery/victorie_cillie-en.php
Arend's "Deirdre" might be suitable also:
http://lowlands-l.net/gallery/victorie_deirdre.php
And his "Tanfana":
http://lowlands-l.net/gallery/victorie_tanfana.php
And his "Grote Harold Van Börk":
http://lowlands-l.net/gallery/victorie_harold.php
Wees' so good un schriev' mi, of ik dat doon mag, beste Arend!
And there is our Tomás à Cárthaigh's "Aniar a fhéachann an Bhean Amach" with
its English and German translations.
http://lowlands-l.net/gallery/carty_bean.php
An féidir liom a fháil do cead, a Thom? Seol dom teachtaireacht!
Any further contributions to this will be very, very welcome, of course.
Ideally, works should have a Lowlands angle to them, though.
Thanks in advance!
Regards,
Reinhard/Ron
