> That is quite appealing, at least onthe face of it. Presumably this would
go for all languages, not just Afrikaans.
> 1) Twice as much paper for printed versions (nearly 3 times as much for
some languages).
> I know a lot of journals are on line these days, but people still print
the papers out and there are still many hardcopy publications.
No, because you can order the hardcopy in one language or the other. If you
want to use it as a language-learning tool, that's an option which would
consume extra paper anyway.
> 2) What to do about the technical terms? Do you create new words in the
other language,
> or just come up with versions of the "English" words that fit the
pronounciation of the language?
> (I use the quote marks, because most of these words are about as English
as Archimedes).
If you can't cope with the translation or rewrite, then the question doesn't
arise. You only have the option of offering languages that you are capable
producing it in.
> 3) Who's going to peer-review the non-English version, to make sure both
actually say the same thing?
Again, you're thinking of the quality of the translation. The papers may be
intended to say the same thing, but this doesn't mean they can't be
peer-reviewed independently.
> Given deadlines and workloads these days, I rather suspect people just
won't bother.
That's just an excuse.
