1. "Loerdag" is het Deens voor zaterdag! (ik krijg de Deense letter O met
een / niet voor mekaar, dus maar van "oe" gebruik gemaakt!).
Wan dat danske wort, wårvan de uutdruk vor sauterdag van weg is, auk de sin
van LS 'luuren' heft, dan is dat m. a. sau wat ås 'luuren up de sondag'. Wan
nig, weyt ik dårto niks.
2. In het ouder Oostends kwam het woord "faige" voor met de betekenis
"plotseling vrijgevig". In de hoop jullie van dienst geweest te zijn
Jau, dat kon wual en annere uutfuorming van mnd. fagher ostwestfÅlsk fänger

ümmekrink van 'fänger' in dem verske van Klöntrup⦠- un van newenglish

Subject: Etymology
Folks,
Apparently, Danish and Dano-Norwegian *lørdag*, Swedish *lördag*,
Neo-Norwegian *laurdag*, Faroese *leygardagur* and Icelandic
*laugardagur*(Saturday) come from Old Norse
*laugardagr*.
The Old Norse verb *lauga* means âto batheâ, and it is related to the
feminine-gender noun *laug* (pl. *laugar*) âbathâ, âhot springâ. I believe
that *laug* is the cognate of English âlyeâ, Dutch *loog* and German *Lauge*
.
So Saturday used to be bath day up north.
