In the US, we’d call them the “host parents” or “host family.”

I told him to inform his "Gast-Eltern" (no match for this word either in
dict.cc or in Leo!!!; it could be "parents for a time" or "hosting parents")
that he is living in the region "Hadeln" - the original area where the
Anglo-Saxons started their journey to the British Islands some 1,500 years
ago ;-)!
I hope he will learn a lot and not put any shame to his parents ;-)!

I thought it could be a great idea to swap kids within LL for summer, free
of charge, for language learning/training purposes. :)
What do the other Lowlanders think?

Vlad,
That does sound basically like a great idea. It could even be extended to
adults, in a sort of swapping program of hosting and teaching, with the
understanding that only the hosts’ language be used for a given duration.
But, of course, this would require Lowlands-L members to take advantage of
their networking opportunities more than most of them do now.
And there would be international legal issues, such as those related to
contract and safety (to filter out the baddies, not that we should have too
many of those), which *you *could address better than most of the rest of
us.

Reinhard/Ron
