Hi all,
Mike, various sanctions<http://af.reuters.com/article/topNews/idAFJOE62T0IM20100330>to
ban these songs as hate speech have been considered by the courts but
to
no avail.
The ANC regards the singing of these songs as part of their cultural
heritage and believes that they should be allowed the freedom to sing it.
Incidentally, most US and European references translate ‘boer’ wrongly as
‘farmer’ but in reality it refers to Afrikaners.
Since May 2010, Genocide Watch has included ‘boers’ as possibly under
threat.
Paul, I do not find any replies by Mbulelo Mandlana or Sasco as yet.
Danke Hanne, ich glaube wir müssen uns stets gegen Rassismus aussprechen.
Regards,
Elsie Zinsser
