Dear Mark, I just saw the fires near Bastrop on TV here in the news. Looks
frightening. Have you packed your things for an emergency? Can you sleep at
night? I sincerely hope the fire spares you, and I send you all our german
rain too. We had a little much of it lately. No grilling weather here either
-- but our situation cannot be compared to yours!!
All the best!!
Marlou

Coincidentally, the town in Texas that has the largest of the wildfires in
my area is Bastrop. Bastrop is about 30 – 50 km east of Austin. History
tells us it was settled by the Dutch. I don’t know if that’s true, but they
sure could use some water right now.
I live about 30 km north of Austin and about 30 km from a different fire at
Steiner Ranch. Our dry conditions are just as bad. In fact, Williamson
County (where I live) has banned welding, grilling or barbecuing, and
cigarette smoking. I don’t smoke or weld ;-), but being Texan I do barbecue
and grill. In Texas grilling is one of our constitutional rights (just
kidding). Fortunately, we did all that before the ban went into effect.
We’d be more than happy to take some of that rain from next door in
Louisiana and Mississippi.

Onnerwerp: LL-L "Member's News."
boud...
Met moeite smeer hy sy regte draai-ligte; glas, buis, raam, beuel, montering
en selfs die draadjie met my gat weg, en die regtekantse afronding van
sy voor-bumper teen my linker-kuit weg. Wel, val het ek nie, maar getol? Eat
your heart out Rudolph Nureyev! Ek lewe, ek weet nie hoe nie, maar keer,
weet nie hoe nie, terurug huis-toe. Vandag is ek doktor en poliesie toe, dis
'n 'hit & run' gewees, en nou sit so teertjies soos eens in my skooljare, ek
onthou. Hiermee rig ek 'n dop en dam op, Hanne Onse aan u herstel toe, en
wens tog die selfde my toe, toe!
Aan die breër geselskap;
Surely in a fit of jealousy at the attention that Our Hannelore in her cares
enjoys, I thought it good in my turn to have a road accident...
Yesterday evening off to work I crossed the road to my destination & there
in the middle of the road, in the middle of the zebra-crossing (pedestrian
crossing) a car taking the free left-turn hit me. He made rather a broad
turn & got me in the middle of the road against the middle of my right
buttock...
With pains he smeared off his right indicator lights; glass, reflector,
frame, cone, mounting & even the electric wiring off on my arse, & the
right-side terminal of his front bumper against my left calf. Well, fall I
did not, but pirouette? Eat your heart out, Rudolph Nureyev! I live, I
don't know how, but returned home, I don't know how. Today I visited the
doctor & the police, it was a hit & run, & now I am sitting as tenderly as
once in my school-years, as I remember. Herewith I raise a brandy & water,
Our Hanne, to your recovery & wish me the same, hey!
Met Liefde,
Mark.
