Anybody out there know if there is possible that Maori* reka* 'tasty,
sweet, juicy, yummy' comes from Dutch (or Afrikaans) lekker (or related)?
I ran across it (reka) yesterday while working on Maori and was struck by
its "fit" to Dutch/Afrikaans... and that meaning doesn't appear to be in
the Austronesian Languages Database (http://language.psy.auckland.
ac.nz/austronesian), and *reka* certainly is NOT related to the Hawai'ian
word *'ono* tasty/delicious'.
