Etymology
From Proto-Indo-European
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proto-Indo-European_language> /*pónteh₁s
<https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Reconstruction:Proto-Indo-European/p%C3%B3nteh%E2%82%81s>/
(“path, road”), from /*pent-
<https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Reconstruction:Proto-Indo-European/pent->/
(“path”). Cognate with Sanskrit /पथिन्

(páthin), Ancient Greek /πόντος

(póntos), Old Armenian /հուն

(hun, “riverbed”), and Old English /findan
<https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/findan#Old_English>/ (English /find

Of interest to me as an occasional student of Nishnaabemowin is the
connection between pons and findan. This is exactly what we find in the
verb mkaan to find, eg. ka mkaan miikaanhs "you will find a path."
