Issue of Sacrifice

There has always been debate on the issue of ritual sacrifices in Aztec
society. I have heard arguments that it was a prolific and daily part of
temple rituals. I have also heard arguments that the whole thing has been
overblown. I need an idea of how common a practice it was and what was the
spiritual/political/practical justification for it. Lots to chew here but
any feedback would be helpful.
