I believe the original Leon-Portilla reference is "Testimonios nahuas sobre
la conquista espiritual,"  Estudios de cultura nahuatl, 11 (1974):  11-36.

Duran's authorship is correcrt.  The term was made popular by Miguel Leon
Portilla in an article he did many years ago on Nahua under the Spanish.  I
don't have the reference, right at hand, but will look for it.
