Panocha and Panoltia

What a shock for a Chicano to open his email and see the "P" word in the
subject line of the Nahuat-l list. As a teenager I was led to believe that
panocha as a vulgar term for female genitalia was not, as the Spanish
etymology suggests, related to corn, but to the sweetness of the brown
sugar which shares the same name. Perhaps the cone shape of the sugar
when it is manufactured is related to the "...vulgar Latin *panucula(m)
referring to 'a millet spike'”. And if so, it makes the whole affair a
rather freudian fantasy.
