Nahuatl in California

Not only were Nahuatl speakers traveling with Spaniards in the northward expansion, but native languages of Southern California (often named for the mission communities, e.g. juaneno; gabrieleno) include Northern Uto Aztecan Takic- Cupan languages, and thus not unrelated to Nahuatl (although admittedly distant).
