Tezcatlipoca
If "Tezcatlipoca" has a metaphorical meaning, an analogical imagery simile,
than the elements must reflect a meaning or a goal, because I don't believe
that the Aztec used a metaphor because it was niece and beautiful.
So than this God must be like a "smoking mirror".
If he has a metaphysical meaning, a transcendental and obscure simile, than
the expression was a reference to his transcendental and obscure capacities
or power.
We could meet two different Tezcatlipocah, a black and a red, for instance
on Plate 21 of the Borgia Codex. In the middle on each side of a ball court,
and above this page on each side of a road. From both the right(?) foot is
replaced by a "smoking mirror".
Tezcatlipoca (tayz-kah-tlee-poh-kah), "Smoking Mirror", God of Providence,
is one of the most important deities of the entire pantheon. He along with
Quetzalcoatl were given the responsibilities by their parents, Ometeteoh, to
create the present earth and modern humanity. They created this Earth from
the giant crocodile, Cipactli.
Instead, as a sort of "revenge" (?) Cipactli ripped off the right foot of
Tezcatlipoca.
So the "smoking mirror" should be most likely a metaphysical meaning, a
reference or a reflection to his transcendental power which is escaping out
of his ripped foot (?).
But why Cipactli has done such a thing, what was his intention?
