Progress on implementation

Dear implementers,

This is a reminder that our Call for Implementation for upgrading to version
1.1 of the OLAC metadata schema has another 5 weeks to go.  As announced in
the original notice on this mailing list, the implementation period will
close on 1 OCTOBER 2008.  For the original notice, see the list archives:

This would be a good week to work on your upgrade since Haejoong Lee (the
OLAC infrastructure programmer at LDC) is working on the project this week
and will be able to give attention to problems you might encounter with the
new infrastructure.

To see the new infrastructure (which is still behind wraps until the
implementation period is over) go to this page:

One new feature is the green check mark or the red X which indicates whether
the archive is successfully harvesting or not.  It turns out that 7 of our
archives (or nearly 20%) are not harvesting (e.g. because the static
repository file is no longer there or is invalid). You will want to look
into that if your archive shows an X.

Click on the Metrics link to see summary statistics for your archive. If it
reports any Known Integrity Problems, you will want to click on the link to
see what they are. The two most prevalent kinds of problems are broken URL
references and invalid code values. You will also want to click on the
Comparative Archive Metrics tab to see a table showing how your archive
compares with the others on the basic metrics.

Back on the Archives page, click on the Sample Record link to see an
analysis of what you could do to improve the quality of the metadata
descriptions in your repository.

As I mentioned in the original Call for Implementation, if you would like
help thinking through what your archive could do to improve its metadata
quality, we have a professional archivist who is available to review your
current metadata records and give advice about how to improve their quality.
