Abstract

The goal of this talk is to discuss the notion of scalarity involved in
a  verb-based construction: the degree modification. More specifically, 
this paper investigates the degree modifier pitat ('a lot') in sentences
with atelic predicates in Karitiana (an Amazonian language spoken by 
350 people on a demarcated area in Brazil). Although atelic verbal 
predicates are not traditionally investigated by scalar-based studies, I
argue that pitat is a degree modifier that gives empirical evidences to 
a scalar analysis to this kind of verbal modification.
