Engineer position in Natural Language Processing

In the context of the ERC-Advanced Researcher Grant, STAC (Strategic
Conversation), IRIT is seeking to hire an engineer with expertise in
NLP, in particular to help with programming algorithms for the
elicitation of discourse structure from text and dialogue. Familiarity
with parsing techniques, NLTK, with annotating, storing
and versioning structured data in NLP and ability to program in
python, are considered essential. Prior participation in national
and/or international projects is highly welcomed.  Experience with
machine learning will be a plus.

The STAC group, headed by Nicholas Asher, has several decades experience
in the formal semantic and pragmatic analysis of dialogue.  In recent
years, the group has acquired expertise in supervised learning methods
with corpora, annotated with discourse structure (French ANR project
ANNODIS, and NSF project DISCOR).  In STAC, we plan to build a robust
discourse analyzer that can analyze both text and dialogue with a higher
degree of reliability than extant systems.  We then will use that
analyzer on dialogues and texts in various genres to study how people
actually reason strategically.


Experience: experience in programming in NLP related tasks, knowledge of
some linguistics, experience with NLP data collection, participation
in research projects

Required skills: advanced programming skills in python (optionally
C++, Java); experience with advanced NLP tasks.

Optional skills: Good knowledge of parsing techniques, especially
parsing noisy data such as chat conversations. Experience with
supervised or semi-supervised machine learning. If possible some
experience in building interactive web interfaces for data collection.

The applicant should be fluent in English or French.
