Le Département d’Etudes Cognitives (DEC; http://www.cognition.ens.fr/) de l’Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS, Paris) espère pouvoir publier un poste de Professeur de linguistique formelle ou expérimentale à l’automne 2014 (pour prise de fonctions à l’automne 2015), ou à l’automne 2015 (pour prise de fonctions à l’automne 2016). Si la description précise du poste ne sera disponible qu’après attribution officielle de celui-ci à l’ENS, nous pensons que cette description comportera probablement les desiderata suivants: 

–un fort dossier de recherche, se manifestant par des publications dans des publications internationales sélectives et avec évaluation par les pairs;
–un fort dossier d’enseignement aux niveaux L3, M1et M2 ou équivalents, et au niveau doctoral;
–la capacité à enseigner en français au plus tard un an après la prise de fonctions, et à prendre une part active dans le développement du cursus de linguistique à l’ENS et dans les programmes de mastère associés;
–la capacité à coordonner l’organisation du groupe DEC-Linguistique, qui comprend plusieurs équipes (http://iec-ling.ens.fr/?lang=fr); et à prendre des responsabilités administratives au sein du DEC;
–la capacité à interagir de façon fructueuse avec les équipes partenaires au sein du DEC, et plus généralement à Paris, tant dans le domaine de la linguistique que des sciences cognitives (y compris la philosophie du langage et de l’esprit);
Les spécialisations souhaitées incluront probablement la linguistique formelle et théorique et/ou la linguistique expérimentale; la capacité à enseigner la syntaxe aux niveaux mastère et doctorat pourrait être utile.

Le DEC a nommé uncomité de recherche de candidats, chargé de garantir que le poste sera annoncé au niveau international. Il est constitué de:

Après attribution du poste au DEC, l’ENS nommera un comité de sélection(distinct du comité de recherche de candidats), qui aura pour fonction d’établir une liste courte de candidats, à les auditionner, et à les classer – en conformité avec les règles en vigueur au sein de l’ENS et du système français. Il est à noter que la candidature à un poste de Professeur exige l’Habilitation (‘Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches’); toutefois, les candidats de l’étranger qui n’ont pas l’Habilitation, ou qui sont établis dans des pays qui n’ont pas de procédure d’Habilitation, pourront soumettre un dossier permettant d’établir s’ils ont une qualification équivalente à l’Habilitation.

The Department of Cognitive Studies (DEC; http://www.cognition.ens.fr/indexENG.html) at Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS), Paris anticipates that it will advertise a full professorship in formal or experimental linguistics in Fall 2014 (for a starting date in Fall 2015), or in Fall 2015 (for a starting date in Fall 2016). While the precise job description will become available only after the position has been officially granted to ENS, we believe that it will probably include the following desiderata:

–a strong research record, as evidenced by publications in top-ranked international peer-reviewed journals;
–a strong teaching record at the advanced undergraduate (corresponding to beginning ENS students) and graduate level;
–an ability to teach in French within one year of the starting date, and to play an active role in shaping the linguistics curriculum within ENS and in associated MA programs;
–an ability to coordinate the organization of the the DEC-Linguistics group, which comprises several teams (http://iec-ling.ens.fr/?lang=en); and to take on administrative responsibilities within DEC;
–an ability to interact productively with partner teams within DEC and more broadly in Paris, both within linguistics and the cognitive sciences (including philosophy of language/mind).
Desired specializations are likely to include formal theoretical linguistics and/or experimental linguistics; an ability to teach graduate-level syntax might be helpful.

Once the position is granted to DEC, ENS will appoint a separate selection committeein charge of establishing a shortlist, conducting interviews and ranking applicants in accordance with procedural rules within ENS and the French system. Note that while applications for a professorship require a ‘Habilitation’ (French: ‘Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches’),  applicants from abroad who are not  ‘habilitated’, or who are established in countries where there is no habilitation, undergo a specific application procedure that probes equivalent academic qualification.
