Ce colloque junior Ciera / Paris Sorbonne réunira des jeunes chercheurs issus de domaines et d'horizons théoriques et méthodologiques différents reflétant la diversité des approches des modalités dans les espaces francophone et germanophone : sémantique formelle, théorie du langage, typologie des langues du monde. Il s'agira notamment de se demander dans quelle mesure les sémantismes modaux pourtant formalisables ne sont pas parfois des phénomènes secondaires, dérivés d'autres catégories radicalement hétérogènes. Il conviendra de s'interroger, y compris dans une perspective interdisciplinaire, sur les conséquences théoriques de ces questionnements et sur leurs implications sur le rapport entre les opérations cognitives universelles présidant à la modalisation et leur traçage dans les langues naturelles.

The junior conference on Modality organized at the Paris Sorbonne University with the support of the Ciera (Interdisciplinary Group for French-German cooperation in the Humanities) is intended to bring together French- and German-speaking researchers from vaious theoretical backgrounds. Formal semanticists, language philosophers, typologists and philologists are welcome to exchange their views on modal meanings accross theoretical boundaries.

The conference will welcome contributions addressing these challenges for the theory of modality. The aim is to gather insights from all disciplinary (sub)fields on modality at the interfaces between several domains. The phenomena we are concerned with include, but are not restricted to, modal constructions involving several parts of speech, non-canonical expressions of modality or emerging modal meanings, both in synchrony and in diachrony.
