Video, audio and conversion equipment

Howdy, all,

I'm about to embark on my first linguistic fieldtrip to collect data on Wichi,
and was wondering what I should look for when shopping for video, audio and
conversion equipment.

I would immensely appreciate any advice you all have to give, and any references
to websites that may help me in my search.  I'll post a summary of my findings
to the list.
