Dear RNLDers
The following information about the 17th Stabilizing Indigenous Languages
Symposium is forwarded on behalf of Janne Underriner <jlu at uoregon.edu>
17th Stabilizing Indigenous Languages Symposium
June 25-27, 2010
Hosted by the University of Oregon ,Eugene, Oregon
Submission date extended to January 11, 2010
The Northwest Indian Language Institute of the University of Oregon will
host the 17th Stabilizing Indigenous Languages Symposium (SILS), the 45th
International Conference on Salish and Neighboring Languages, the Athabascan
Languages Conference, and the Hokan-Penutian Languages Conference.
The co-occurrence of these conferences will allow community members/language
activists and linguists to come together to share ideas, learn from each
other, and facilitate contacts between academic linguists and communities
that speak endangered languages.
In addition, on June 21st, NILI’s Summer Institute and the UO’s Department
of Linguistics Infield will begin. This will consist of two weeks of classes
and workshops offering community members, language activists and linguists
training on a wide range of issues related to language preservation,
maintenance and revitalization, linguistic fieldwork and documentation,
followed by InField’s four weeks of intensive field methods courses.
