Announcement
Linguistics in the Pub (LIP) September 2010
Organised by RNLD http://www.rnld.org
Topic: Dictionaries and language documentation
(discussion led by Ruth Singer, La Trobe University)
Language documentation projects often involve, or somehow lead to,
dictionary-making. In this meeting we will have a discussion of some of the
issues in making dictionaries followed by a show-and-tell session, where
dictionary-makers will be available to discuss their dictionaries with
participants.
Some possible discussion questions:
How to decide on the best dictionary design for the audience?
Can one design satisfy all possible users or are multiple outputs the best
option?
What are some good dictionary designs for language users?
Participants are encouraged to bring along dictionaries they are working on,
or have completed, be they print or electronic in form.
Date: Tuesday 7th September
Time: 7:00 pm
Venue: Upstairs room, Prince Alfred Hotel,
191 Grattan St, Carlton
(corner of Bouverie St)
ph (03) 9347-3033
The RNLD AGM will be held just before the LIP meeting at the same location,
at 6pm, all welcome.

LIP is an occasional gathering of language activists and linguists in
Melbourne. All are welcome. Those in other parts of Australia and the world
who can't make it to the Melbourne LIPs are encouraged to organise a local
gathering to discuss this topic and support language activities in your
area.
