numeracy and literacy software

Can anyone recommend any free or cheap numeracy/literacy software?
I'm donating some pre-loved PC laptops to a couple of volunteer run schools
in the Philippines and I want to load a few things on them first. Languages
of instruction are English and two local languages.
SIL has drawn a blank.
