Yep, I'd second that. Cheaper inverters have a habit of frying
themselves too! And if you do everything through an inverter, and your
inverter breaks...
And as for costlier, I'd also point out that inverters are costlier in
power - the inverter converts 12v DC to 110/240v AC and then your
laptop power adapter converts it back to DC. It's much more efficient
to simply convert DC to DC. Especially if you find you're short for
power (which I often do).
