Hi,

For what it's worth, I've been happy with my little Tascam DR-07,
though I've never used it in a really demanding field situation.

It uses the larger SD cards, which are easy enough to keep track of.
The price range sounds about right for your situation. It does tend to
chew up batteries, though, so you might want to keep that in mind if
access to batteries is a consideration.
