+1 on Audacity.
Have you tried Avidemux<http://fixounet.free.fr/avidemux/index.html> for the video? If you can get it to run stably on your computer, it should do the trick.
Just be wary that cutting audio and video often results in files that won't sync well…if that was your aim.
