Muurrbay www.muurrbay.org.au <http://www.muurrbay.org.au> is looking for
expressions of interest from suitably qualified linguists for consultancy
work at Muurrbay. We require two consultants, one to support Northern
languages and one to support Southern languages within our region.

Duties:

1. Become familiar with one of the target languages through listening
to audio recordings and transcribing them, studying existing grammars and
dictionaries, and recording speakers where possible.

2. Work with Muurrbay linguistic and I.T. staff to support Aboriginal
people in various areas of language revitalisation, including transcription
and translation, community language workshops and course development, and
developing language learning resources.

Selection Criteria:

1. A tertiary qualification in Linguistics or Indigenous languages
education. Also preferred is a willingness to undertake further tertiary
study in Linguistics on one of the languages supported by Muurrbay.

2. Experience in Indigenous language work, with an ability to carry out
a project.

3. Demonstrated ability to communicate and work harmoniously with
Indigenous Australians.

4. Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.

5. Competent computer, literacy and technical skills.

6. Valid NSW driver’s licence or equivalent.

7. Preferably, a willingness to live in or nearby the area of the
target language. Northern region is Grafton to the Tweed, Southern region
is Port Macquarie to Central Coast.

What Muurrbay can offer you:

An opportunity to work with a successful regional language centre; advice
on developing the project and all areas of language research, resource
development and community liaison. Use of Muurrbay office facilities; work
experience and an ongoing connection with Muurrbay that may lead to future
work opportunities in the region and beyond; and support in developing
topics of research for future study.

Project details will be negotiated with the successful candidates and are
dependent on their area of expertise. The specific terms of the consultancy
will also be negotiated, however consultancy fees will be in the vicinity
of $200-$300 per day depending on qualifications and experience and it is
hoped that the consultancy will start in May and will run for 10 weeks (at
3 days/week) with the possibility of extension for another 10 weeks (total
5 months).

Please email a cover letter, your resume and a short document addressing
the selection criteria (one to two pages) to Gary Williams before 6th May
