ALS fieldwork and maintenance/revitalization scholarships
The Australian Linguistic Society is currently offering two Scholarships to support linguistics research students in linguistic fieldwork and in activities to assist language communities: the Gerhardt Laves Scholarship, which covers fieldwork expenses for postgraduate researchers in indigenous languages of Australia or its immediate region; and the new Jalwang Scholarship, to support linguists to give back to the community by converting some of their research into materials of benefit to the language speakers, for example by producing community materials in the language or engaging in language maintenance or revitalisation activities. Note: eligibility for the Laves scholarship is restricted to students enrolled at an Australian university, but this constraint does not apply to Jalwang.
The closing date for the current round of applications for both Scholarships is Friday 19 August 2016. Applications must be made using the official application form. This form must be obtained by emailing a request to Bill Palmer (ALS Vice President) at bill.palmer-at-newcastle.edu.au. The application form and supporting documents must be submitted as email attachments to Bill Palmer at bill.palmer-at-newcastle.edu.au by the closing date. Recipients and unsuccessful applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application in early September 2016.
