A new position based at the Goldfields Aboriginal Language Centre in Kalgoorlie, WA, for a full-time qualified linguist is now available.

Salary $57 729 p.a. Conditions as per Public Service and Government Officers General Agreement, WA, including an annual return flight to Perth. Travel costs to Kalgoorlie for commencement and a relocation allowance provided.

Commencement by early April 2016. 

This exciting new position will entail the Linguist working at the Goldfields Aboriginal Language Centre on the recording, analysis and preservation of Goldfields Aboriginal languages. The Linguist will form part of a small, dynamic team and work directly with language speakers to record and analyse little studied languages.

This position is ideal for a newly qualified linguist keen to develop field work skills or for a more experienced linguist interested in research and grammar writing for further qualifications.

The city of Kalgoorlie-Boulder is situated in the Goldfields region of WA and provides a fantastic mix of historical and modern facilities. http://www.kalgoorlietourism.com House rental is very affordable. Travel to remote Aboriginal communities and small towns through the region is part of the linguist's role during field work. 

Essential skills include:

1. Linguistic experience with Aboriginal languages
2. Experience with linguistic field work or a strong desire to learn
3. Comprehensive computer and databasing skills, preferably with Toolbox
4. Strongly developed team work skills
5. Strongly developed linguistic analysis and sketch grammar writing skills and knowledge
6. Proven ability to work effectively with Aboriginal people
7. Driver's license
8. Linguistic qualifications
9. Police clearance or ability to obtain
