13th International Austronesian and Papuan Languages and Linguistics Conference (APLL13). University of Edinburgh (online), 10-12 June 2021.

The Austronesian and Papuan Languages and Linguistics Research Group is pleased to announce that its thirteenth international conference – APLL13 – will be hosted by the University of Edinburgh on 10-12 June, 2021. Owing to the current pandemic and the unpredictability of travel restrictions, we plan to hold APLL13 in a fully-online format.

The purpose of the APLL conferences is to provide a venue for presentation of the best current research on Austronesian and Papuan languages and linguistics, and to promote collaboration and research in this area. APLL13 follows a successful online instantiation of APLL, hosted by the University of Oslo, as well as previous APLL conferences held in Leiden, Surrey, Paris and London, and the Austronesian Languages and Linguistics (ALL) conferences held at SOAS and St Catherine's College, Oxford (see https://sites.google.com/view/apllconference/previous-upcoming-conferences).

Abstracts for APLL13 are now invited. The Programme Committee welcomes presentations on any aspect of the languages and linguistics of Austronesian and Papuan languages, including descriptive linguistics of individual languages, and comparative and historical studies involving several of these languages.

Presentations will be 20 minutes, followed by 10 minutes of discussion. Each individual may contribute up to two submissions, one of which may be a single-author paper. Abstracts must be submitted via the EasyChair system, which you can access at https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=apll13.

If you do not have an EasyChair account already, you will need to create one when you do this. Once logged in, complete your details and upload your abstract as an attachment (.pdf or .docx).

Abstracts must be no more than one A4 page in length, including all material such as references, examples, figures, tables, and maps. Abstracts must be anonymous, and set in a minimum of 12pt font. They should be in .pdf or .docx format and the filename should start with APLL13, followed by an underscore and then first author's surname, e.g. APLL13_hamar.pdf. If you have a common surname, please also include initials, e.g. APLL13_jjones.pdf. Abstracts will be peer-reviewed by members of the Programme Committee.

A selected early career researcher will be invited to address the plenary in an invited talk. BA, MA or PhD students, as well as researchers who have received their PhD after January 2019, are especially invited are invited to submit an abstract and to indicate that they wish to be considered for the early career researcher plenary session; this can be indicated as part of the submission process in EasyChair. The early career plenary speaker will be selected from the abstracts indicating this, and will be invited to give a 45-minute plenary talk at the conference.
