Workshop on historical language texts, and methods for re-use
(Preceding the conference LD&A 2024 : Language Documentation and Archiving 2024)

September 3rd 2024, Berlin

Join Nick Thieberger (PARADISEC) and Brook Danielle Lillehaugen  (Ticha ) for a day-long workshop on topics including the following:

– using historical texts in language revitalisation (examples: Nyingarn.net, Ticha)
– how to get text from archival objects to increase accessibility (text from manuscripts, transcripts of dynamic media)
– data management for large textual collections
– relative value of different OCR systems
– crowdsourcing transcriptions, what works, how to do it
– use of AI in image recognition in archives
– how to respect contemporary knowledge holders in the use of historical manuscripts in their languages
