Dear list members:
We are just about ready to have analyses from any of you appear on the web.
Some questions have been raised about how it will work. No doubt I have not
anticipated all of the issues. But these are already upon us:
Q: How many analyses can I post?
A: I don't have a limit, but I do have only limited effort to do postings,
and this is not my only research thread. After one or two analyses come in
from someone, if there is a shortage in my available energy, I will favor
those who have not posted one or two analyses ahead of those who already
have one or two out there.
Q: What if the analysis is not RST? Does the tool check?
A: The tool is very unrestrictive about what it displays. If an analysis
comes in that is not valid RST, I will return it with a suggestion.
Q: What if the analysis involves a mixed schema?
A: Mixed schemas are risky at best and can contain implicit contradictions.
Often they arise from not thinking through whether a satellite applies to a
certain nucleus rather than a larger span. I will generally regard mixed
schemas as not quite being RST.
Q: What if I use relations that are not in the RST website or publications?
A: I will assume that you have defined the relations that you use.
Experience has shown that relation NAMES, used without definitions, can lead
quickly to confusion.
Some good news: The download path for the tool is now clear again for all
of the operating systems previously supported. Thank you, Mick.
A request: If you experience any persistent problem in accessing or using
the tool, the website or any of the documentation, please let us know. It
won't be fixed up unless we are told.
Happy thinking.
